Offered a ten-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets, Collins plays first game tonight, which makes him the first gay , active, NBA player to play the game.
As for me, I'm happy that people are getting FINALLY over themselves. Sixty-seven years ago, it would have been an issue because he was a black athlete. Today, it's because he happens to be a gay athlete.
Every major league sports organization was a hotbed ot segregation, bigotry, bias, and ignorance. It's the way things were. They'd damned well better adapt to the way things now are... or are becoming. Or face the perils of that antique, championship-hurting idiocy.
Nets general manager Billy King says that "the decision to sign Jason was a basketball decision."
But is the world coming to an END!?!?
OBVIOUSLY NOT! There have been gay and bisexual players in professional athletics since the first olympiad in Greece.
Telling, however, is how the society continues to evolve, whether kicking and screaming--- or not.
You can bitch all you want to, but that cannot possibly stop a tsunami's flow.
And the tide is flowing, indeed. Right smack-dab-into the twenty-first century.
Michael Sam is Poised to Be Another Pioneer!
There is another highly-decorated, talented, respected, statistical god, in the running to break down the wall of bigotry against gay and bisexual athletes in the National Football League (NFL).
"Well ain't THIS about a MUGGFUGGAH!?!?!?!"
I suspect that there are at least two schools of thought. One is here. The, other, can be found here. And a catalogue of opinions or other professional athletes can be found here. Even HERE!
But I ALSO KNOW about what goes on in the BARBERSHOP, where gay men are concerned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thus far, however, I haven't found any junk-grabbin'n, high-five-in' (invented by a gay black Major League Baseball Player called GLENN BURKE... by the way), vitriolic hysteria on the web... yet!
I'll look again, after Collins' turn tonight, and again after Sam is signed to an NFL team as a starter.
Brothas be like, "Naaaaaaah! NAH!!!! WHUT da FVCK, NUKKAH!?!?!?" --- Or are they...?
Proud of Jason Collins' decision to come out last year, rapper A$AP Rocky compared his announcement to R&B singer Frank Ocean revealing his bisexuality.
"That's his business," Rocky said in an interview. "I respect men more for coming out. People joke on Frank Ocean a lot but at least he's not out here fronting. It's a lot of people, a lot of motherf*ckers be out here, they be the closet motherf*ckers, you know? I don't respect them. I respect gay men who identify it and who are out with it. I don't have a problem with gay people at all. So it's like, that's his business. It don't concern me. Number one, I barely get to watch basketball like that as it is. Number two, I don't even know who this n*gga is that you talking about. Dead a**. He probably has ten times more money than me but I don't know who he is. We got the Frank Ocean of the NBA now who came out and did what he had to do. Shout-outs to him." (KYSDC)
No Use Crying Over Spilled Milk.
For after all the sturm und drang has subsided... maybe... just maybe... the majority of the country will come to accept, or at least tolerate, the fact that the world is changing.
Now... i recognize how fervently people of all stripes take their sports! My family is FULL of sports fans... My own DVR is often know to capture Yankee Baseball, The World Cup, Wimbledon, Kentucky Derby, and others.
I'm confident that the entire personal-preference issue, which has occupied locker rooms all over the planet, for centuries--- will finally come to a logical, and civilised end.
There have always been gay and bisexual men in professional sports. Only now, thank God, society is being rattled by the tremor in demand of evolution, of truth, fairness, equality, and sensibility.
I'll, truly, attempt to mask my epicaricacy or schadenfreude, in the extreme, for the relics whom refuse to evolve. Everybody rejoice. It's a brand new day.
WARNING: THIS NUMBER, could be considered to be, a TEENCY bit..., um... "ghey"!
