Earth-based, ancient, religions do not embrace armaggeddon and doom. They worship nature, the elements, the seasons, the healing arts, the sun or the moon, and their pantheon of goddesses, familiars, talismans and gods. Their societies, cultures, and beliefs predated Christianity for eons, and there are those who say that the Mayan civilization was destroyed by over-population and hunger. The Maya, however, still exist in notable populations to this day, mainly in central America..
So--- they were unlucky in their near extinction, however, does that make them wrong about this scheduled, or desired, change? Or just unfortunate? What if they had foreseen a symbolic, and deeply respected and highly anticipated, quantum shift in the ways in which we live, love, and the manner in which we treat each other? What if they foretold of the coming of an age of enlightenment and universal kindness, equality and civility?
The Maya believe(d) that we live in different, reinvented, "worlds", or periods. They state that, following three terrible worlds, we are now in the time in which we will begin living in the fourth, ideal, world! Perhaps, they were exactly right!
Is the way being paved for the time in which all peoples of the planet will give over to becoming our greatest selves, eschewing our preconceptions, tunnel-vision, hatred based on ancient stereotypes, and fear? Are we now on the precipice of becoming better as a species? Are we now tired of centuries of misguided, bigoted ignorance and rancor?
Is human culture ready to embrace an old, yet entirely new, way of living with each other? God knows I'd love to believe so! Wouldn't that be nice? Maybe they really were referring to a brand new day, for all of us?
Even if they were wrong, couldn't we all try anyway? There is nothing TO it, but to DO it! Can't you feel a brand new day? I sure do!
I feel different today. I feel prayerful and powerful and hopeful for a better way of life today. Imagine if we all just said "ENOUGH!" How about we take a chance on creating a better future for ourselves. Nobody can do it for us, but us. Just by deciding to do so. Period.
So, we all giggled, or prayed, at the sun's arrival this morning! But guess what? Our Maya brothers and sisters may have been making us aware of our next obligation to each other as civilized human beings. Who is to say that we know it all? Just maybe their admonition and warning (or prediction) is right on time!
"Everybody Rejoice" and Feel A Brand New Day!
Lots of people have, and continue to, claim to know when the end will come. They have done. For CENTURIES!!
And for the paranoiac, cynical, "Doomsdayers", here is a partial list of all the, failed, apocalyptic events and armaggeddons ever predicted, and those yet to come.
