While in Salzburg, following a "generalprobe" of "Hochzeit des Figaro" he went backstage and personally invited celebrated, American Mezzo-Soprano, Frederica von Stade, to be his special, personal guest at a Liederabend (at Schloß Leopoldskron--- "The Sound of Music" palace) in which he was to perform. She accepted his invitation and, after much personal drama that day, she still showed up--- on TIME--- as she said she would... when she called him that morning to confirm!

Immediately following the performance, Miss von Stade referred to him as "...A Great Communicator! ...Wonderful!!" He also encountered the conductor of the opera, James Levine, in the dressing room corridor... and Maestro's brother.

Savant was invited into the pit to sit with Maestro Leonard Bernstein as he conducted the rehearsal for Dance Theater of Harlem's performance of "Giselle".   Other star-takes and encounters in Salzburg included: Kathleen Battle (Marie McLaughlin, Samuel Ramey, Andre Watts, Jessye Norman, Maestro James Levine (Metropolitan Opera, Boston Symphony, Munich Philharmonic) and Deon van der Walt (La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Salzburg Festival).

Other jewels in his classical pedigree include study at Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ), where he learned from, coached with or sang under, Frauke Hassemann, Joseph Flummerfelt, Wesley Balk, Dalton Baldwin, Ricardo Muti, Constantina Tsolainou, Leonard Bernstein, Arleen Auger and others.  He has also coached with Enrico Di Giuseppe (New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera, New York Grand Opera) .  He also performed in the revival production of Donizetti's "Belisario" (featured chorus role) with Opera at Rutgers featuring Judith Burbank (Salzburger Landestheater, New England Opera,  Pittsburgh Opera), Ronald Naldi (Metropolitan Opera, Spoleto, Lyric Opera Chicago), and Dr. Jerrold Pope.  Some months later, he performed the role of Rodolfo (Pavarotti) in the "Ah Mimi tu Piu non Torni"  duet ("La Boheme") with Dr. Jerrold Pope (Tanglewood, Glyndebourne, Cincinnati Opera, Carnegie Hall, American Symphony) in concert that year.

He served as the founding artistic director of "The Key West International Jazz Festival" (Multiple venues) which, in its debut year, attracted, and won, a $16,000, first-time, grant from the Monroe County Tourist Development Council; conducted and vocally prepared "A Chorus Line", directed "West Side Story" and others.   2018 has inspired a desire to return to the arts--- in some manner--- after a long, and sad, absence.
